Kings County, California Sheriff’s Office “Child was located as a result of citizen receiving alert message and initiating his own search,” wrote Deputy Weimer. This after a 3 year old boy was reported missing on Sunday, October 27, 2013. He had last been seen playing in his backyard when his mother noticed him missing. The agency activated A Child Is Missing Alert which placed over 1,000 telephone alert calls around the boy’s home in Hanford. The boy was found unharmed about a half mile away and it was determined he had climbed over the fence and wandered off.

Porterville, California Police Department (Tulare County) “Alert was received by a mechanic at his business which provided him a description of missing person. During a test drive of a customer vehicle, the mechanic spotted the missing person in a rural area,” wrote Sergeant Contreras on August 13, 2013 after his agency activated A Child Is Missing Alert. The missing person was a 73 year old woman with Alzheimer’s that had gone missing from her home in Porterville the previous night. A Child Is Missing sent nearly 1,200 telephone alert calls to the area. The woman was found about 5 miles away from her home.

La Habra, California Police Department (Orange County) “At 15:55 we received information that subject was found in good health and safe, and that the person that found our missing received the phone call from ACIM. I found the system very easy to use and proven to work.” This was written by Dispatcher Cathy Gonzalez after she activated the Alert on March 13, 2013 for an 81 year old woman with dementia. Over 1,500 telephone alert calls assisted the agency in locating the woman safe less than 1 hour after activation.

Porterville, California Police Department (Tulare County) The afternoon of Tuesday, October 30, 2012, a 9 year old autistic boy was reported missing from his home in Porterville. Dispatcher Casey activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist Officer Gray at the scene. Over 1,100 telephone alert calls were sent to residents and businesses around the boy’s home. In response, 6 calls were received which assisted Police in locating the boy hiding inside a vehicle a short distance away.

Porterville, California (Tulare County) Police Department The afternoon of Thursday, September 20, 2012, Dispatcher Tina called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert. Officer Dominguez was searching for a 9 year old boy last seen at school earlier in the day. Upon activation, over 1,100 telephone alert calls were sent to include the area near the boy’s school and his home in case he had headed in that direction. In response a tip came in of a sighting about 1.5 miles away. Officers responded and located the boy, safe.

Victorville, California (San Bernardino County) Police Department It was shortly after 9pm on September 13, 2012 when Deputy Teplansky called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert. A 15 year old girl with autism had been reported missing from her home and concern for her safety was growing. Upon activation nearly 1,200 telephone alert calls were sent to the community, giving the girl’s description and asking anyone with information to call Police. The alert calls brought forth information that assisted the agency in locating the girl safe at approximately 2am about 1 mile from her home.

Sacramento, California (Sacramento County) Police Department The afternoon of Thursday, September 13, 2012, a 10 year old boy was reported missing from his home in Sacramento. Sergeant Wayne Stephens activated A Child Is Missing Alert, a first for his agency. Upon activation, over 3,000 telephone alert calls were sent surrounding two addresses of interest. A short time later, the calling area was expanded and the alert message was updated to include additional clothing items it was believed the child may be wearing. After the second alert was launched, a family member that did not have custody returned the child, it is believed due to hearing the alerts. The child was returned safe.

Chico, California (Butte County) Police Department The morning of Tuesday, July 10, 2012, a toddler was found by herself near Chestnut Street in Chico wearing a flowery dress and no shoes. The little girl was brought to the Police station while Officer Moore began the search to determine where the girl came from. Dispatcher Denise Dominguez activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist and nearly 800 telephone alert calls were sent to area residents, giving the girl’s general description and asking anyone who might have information about her to call Police. According to the follow-up report, 22 minutes after activation, the agency received a call from a woman that knew where the child lived. The woman went to the child’s home, where a babysitter confirmed the child was missing.

San Joaquin County, California Sheriff’s Office Sunday June 10, 2012, a 66 year old woman with Schizophrenia went missing in Lathrop and Sergeant Hood activated A Child Is Missing Alert. The woman had gone missing before and based on that knowledge, an area of Stockton was targeted in the alert as well as the area surrounding her home and a third region where there had been a sighting. Upon activation, an alert phone call went to those areas, giving the woman’s general description and asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the Sheriff’s Office. In response a tip was received that helped deputies locate the woman safe approximately 4 miles away. “Great service,” wrote Sergeant Hood.

In response, the agency received tips that helped them to locate the girl safe later that evening at a nearby park.

Her parents had not seen her since she left for school, but her friends reported that she had not shown up at the school. Deputy Watson activated A Child Is Missing Alert and nearly 1,400 telephone alert calls were sent covering both the girl’s residence and the school in hopes that someone may have information on her whereabouts. In response, the agency received tips that helped them to locate the girl safe that evening in an area approximately 1 mile away from her home.

In response 2 tips came in that helped Police to locate the boy at a friend’s home later that afternoon.

San Bernardino County, California Sheriff’s Office The afternoon of Sunday, November 6, 2011, an 87 year old woman suffering from dementia was reported missing from her home in Upland after a disagreement with her daughter. Sergeant Silva activated A Child Is Missing Alert and more than 1,400 telephone alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the woman’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response, neighbors came outside to assist in the search and tips came in that helped narrow down the search area until finally the woman was located 10 miles away in Rancho Cucamonga.

Stockton, California (San Joaquin County) Police Department “The Police Department received several calls from citizens that had seen the juvenile. Two citizens followed the juvenile until the Police arrived.” CSO Enebrad wrote in response to a case follow-up after activating A Child Is Missing Alert in an effort to locate a 10 year old boy that had gone missing from his school after getting into trouble. In response to the 1,800 alert phone calls, 10 tips were received and the boy was finally located 2 blocks from the school, approximately 1.5 hours after the alert was launched.

Stockton, California (San Joaquin County) Police Department Wednesday, September 14, 2011, a 77 year old man suffering from Alzheimer’s was reported missing from his home in Stockton. CSO Enebrad activated A Child Is Missing Alert to augment her agency’s search and more than 1,800 telephone alert calls were sent to the man’s neighborhood, asking residents to be on the lookout and to contact Police if they had any information. According to the case follow-up report, “Several citizens called in with sightings of the missing man.” The agency responded to the tips from those callers and located the man walking on a street four miles from his home.

Porterville, California (Tulare County) Police Department The morning of Monday, May 23, 2011, a 95 year old man was reported missing from his home in Porterville. The man had last been seen the previous evening and was thought to be suffering from Alzheimer’s. Dispatcher Tina Brown activated A Child Is Missing Alert and over 1,400 calls were placed surrounding the man’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response, 5 calls with information were received. Those tips led Police to the man, who was walking along the road, approximately one half mile from his home.

San Bernardino County, California Sheriff’s Office Thursday, March 31, 2011, Deputy Charles was leading the search for a missing 10 year old boy. The boy had gotten into trouble with his parents and rather than face punishment, he decided to run away. It was beginning to get dark and his parents as well as law enforcement grew more concerned. In addition to passing flyers and making PA announcements in the area, A Child Is Missing was called to activate the Alert program. More than 2,000 alert calls were placed requesting anyone with information about the child to contact The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. When those calls did not produce sufficient results to locate the boy, the calling area was expanded. In response to the second wave of calls, two calls with information were received, enabling officers to locate the boy safe, approximately 3 miles from where he had gone missing.

Stockton, California (San Joaquin County) Police Department The morning of Tuesday, December 7, 2010, Stockton Police were confronted with the peculiar circumstance of having located a woman who was not sure who she was and having to find her family. The woman was found wandering along Henry Long Boulevard at 5am and couldn’t remember her name. Over 1,200 alert calls were placed by A Child Is Missing after Officer Enebrad activated the Alert Program. In response, a call with information came in giving the woman’s identity. Police were then able to determine that the woman lived one block from where she was found and she was reunited with her caregivers safe.

Fontana, California (San Bernardino County) Police Department An Elderly woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s went missing in Fontana on May 5, 2010. Communications Supervisor Hostetter contacted A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert Program- which they had also successfully done just one month prior. This time more than 5,000 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the Bonnie Lane address where the woman had last been seen. One of the recipients of the alert call was a neighbor who found the woman in her backyard. Upon finding the woman, the neighbor notified Police, who returned the woman safe to her family. The total time from activation to safe assisted recovery was 46 minutes, preserving law enforcement time and resources.

Fontana, California (San Bernardino County) Police Department On Tuesday, April 6, 2010, Communications Supervisor Wendy Hostetter activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist in her agency’s search for a 7 year old girl. The mother of the missing girl had picked the girl up from school and family members were concerned about the mother’s state of mind and had expressed concern about the child’s safety. Approximately 3,000 alert calls were placed around the school, and in response to those alert calls, a citizen called in stating he had seen the two walking nearby. An officer responded and located both mother and child safe one and a half miles from the school.

San Bernardino County, California Sheriff’s Office A 49 year old man thought to be a danger to himself was reported missing to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office on January 15, 2010. Sergeant Doug Wolfe activated the A Child is Missing Alert and over 4,400 alert calls were placed in near the 400 block of East Elysian Boulevard, where the man was last seen. Approximately 20 calls with information were generated, enabling Police to locate the man safe hiding in nearby woods, about a block from where he had gone missing.

San Bernardino County, California Sheriff’s Office The San Bernardino County, California Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program on November 9, 2009 when it was searching for a 79 year old woman, possibly in need of medical attention, who had gone missing. She had last been seen that morning at 10:00 in the area of the 18000 block of Alder Street in Hesperia, California and Police were concerned about her safety. A Child Is Missing quickly launched more than 1,500 alert calls which “generated the neighborhood to come out of their houses to look,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Sergeant Colleen Kuhn. The Sheriff’s Office received six to seven calls from the community as a result of the alert calls and, shortly after, the woman was found safe three miles away.

Pasadena, California (Los Angeles County) Police Department “Your service resulted directly in case closure,” said Pasadena, California Police about the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. This came after more than 2,700 alert calls were placed on the agency’s behalf by A Child Is Missing to assist the Pasadena Police search for a 76 year old man thought to be in need of medical attention. He had been missing for four days having last been seen on September 15, 2009 in the area of the 1700 block of Newport Avenue in Pasadena. A short time after the alert calls were placed, the man was located safe.

Victorville, California (San Bernardino County) Police Department June 6, 2009; Victorville Police activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program when they responded to a case involving a missing six year old boy, He had gone missing at approximately 3:00pm from the 15000 block of Topango Road in Victorville and was missing for several hours. Approximately 2,400 alert phone calls were placed in the area surrounding the Topango Road location and six people called Victorville Police with information. In addition to that assistance, several residents who received the alert call helped Police distribute flyers and search for the boy according to Police. Ultimately he was found safe at 7:00pm 1/5 mile from where he had gone missing.

The Fresno, California Police Department began a search for a missing 76 year old man with Alzheimer’s in the early morning hours of May 6, 2009. The information regarding the missing man was taken by a Recovery Specialist for A Child Is Missing and the alert calls were held and placed at 7:00am to ensure maximum effectiveness. With more than 2,100 alert calls placed, approximately 15 calls from the public with information were generated. This information was ultimately responsible for Fresno Police locating the man at the Millerton Lake Ranger Station—some 20 miles from the 9300 block of North Blackstone Avenue where he had last been seen.

Two calls with information from the public were enough to provide sufficient information to Police to enable the boys safe recovery.

At 3:15pm on May 15, 2007, a 71 year old woman went missing from the 9400 block of Cody Way in Stockton, California and the Stockton Police were called. To help the agency’s search for the woman, Officer Russ Thurman called A Child Is Missing and requested activation of the Alert Program. This resulted in more than 1,500 alert calls being placed to the area near where the woman had last been seen. As a result, the woman was safely located five blocks from her home.

On March 11, 2007, a 79 year old woman went missing from the 400 block of Lexington in Stockton, California and the Stockton Police were called. Police then called A Child Is Missing and requested activation of the Alert Program. This resulted in more than 1,500 alert calls being placed to the area near where the woman had last been seen. As a result, the woman was safely located.

Stockton, CA – On December 2, 2006, a 14-year-old juvenile was reported missing by the Port of Stockton Police Department. Communications Officer Jonathan Swain contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a complete description and last seen location of the missing person. Within minutes over 1700 residences and business in the area were notified. Stockton Police received a call from Holiday Cinema that resulted in recovery of the missing juvenile. Officer Enebrad, of the Missing Persons Division, stated “Holiday Cinema received the alert – missing juvenile was recognized by employees after the telephone alert –Good Job.”

South Lake Tahoe, CA – On November 19, 2006, a twenty five year old at risk brain injured male went missing from his residence in South Lake Tahoe (El Dorado County), CA. Communications Officer Leona and Officer Martinez of the South Lake PD contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a complete description of the missing person. Over 639 residences and businesses in the area were notified. Officer Martinez was quoted as saying “The missing person – an at risk brain injured adult – was reported missing at 0930 hours. Our request to A Child is Missing occurred at 1015 hours, and the calls were confirmed at 1038 hours. The subject was located at 1058 hours by a resident who had received the call and was out looking. Thank you.”

Stockton, CA – On April 21, 2006, a six-year-old girl went missing from her residence in Stockton (San Joaquin County) CA. Officer Keo of the Stockton PD contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a complete description of the missing girl to be used as part of the neighborhood notification alert. A Child Is Missing notified over 1600 residences and businesses in the area. One of the call recipients had found the child earlier and brought her to Community Services. When they received the alert call, they connected the description of the girl to the one they had brought in earlier, and notified the appropriate authorities. Officer Keo was quoted as saying “Good work, this is a good program.”
