New Castle County, Delaware Police Department The night of Sunday, March 23, 2014, Senior Sargent Dolan was leading the search for a missing 16 year old boy that was reported to be autistic and nonverbal. The New Castle County Police Department began actively investigating the disappearance of this child who had the mental capacity of a four (4) year old. At 11:30 p.m. A Child Is Missing Alert was activated and more than 1,200 alert calls were launched into the community surrounding the boy’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. After locating the boy on Route 4 at Delaware Park in Newark, about three (3) miles from where he had gone missing, Police learned a call to 911 was instrumental in directing officers to the general vicinity where the boy was ultimately located at 12:45 a.m. “The call that was generated after the ACIM was launched cut the time in half of when the child was last seen and lead to officers being in that area. A call to 911 from someone who did not get the ACIM call, ultimately helped to find him,” wrote Senior Sargent Dolan.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department The night of Wednesday, January 22, 2014, a 15 year old boy who, according to Police, was suicidal, had gone missing from home after making threats to harm himself. His mother thought he may have run to a friend’s house, but no one was able to locate him. Sargent Angie Dolan began actively investigating the disappearance of this child who had been suicidal in the past. At 10:30 p.m. A Child Is Missing Alert was activated and more than 1,100 alert calls were launched into the community surrounding the boy’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. After locating the boy on Palmetto Court in Bear, a little more than a mile from where he had gone missing, Police learned an alert call recipient was instrumental in directing officers to the general area where the victim was ultimately located at 11:56 p.m.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department “A Child Is Missing (ACIM) activated at 0700 hrs. Between 0714 and 0720, we received two (2) calls advising that the child was seen in the area. The child was located at 0720 hours with the assistance of a tip call. Very useful tool,” wrote Officer Neipris after he activated the Alert on Sunday, December 22, 2013. His agency had been notified of a missing 11 year old girl and over 1,250 alert calls were launched to the area surrounding the missing girl’s home, asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the Police. In response, tips with information came in, helping Police to locate the girl safe, approximately 1/2 mile from her home. Total time from activation to safe recovery was less than one hour, preserving law enforcement time and resources.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department “The child’s parents heard the alert and realized that their child was missing,” wrote Sergeant Polk after he activated the Alert on August 18, 2013. His agency had been notified of a toddler that was found wandering in Bear. To assist the agency in looking for the caregivers of the child, over 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent to the area where the child was located. Upon receiving the alert, the parents notified Police, bringing an end to the search.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department “One tip received which helped direct officers to the general area where victim was ultimately located,” wrote Sergeant Mike Bradshaw after he activated A Child Is Missing Alert on August 5, 2013. A 75 year old woman with Alzheimer’s had walked away from her home early that morning and had not been seen in a few hours. A Child Is Missing Alert placed nearly 2,000 telephone alert calls near her home and near another address of interest. This assisted Police in locating the woman safe about 3.5 miles away.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department On February 8, 2012, Sergeant Divirgilio called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert. It was approaching 9:30pm and a 12 year old boy had not been seen since 5pm that afternoon and concern for his safety was growing. A Child Is Missing placed more than 1,200 telephone alert calls to the area surrounding the boy’s home. According to the case follow-up, “after receiving the phone call a neighbor notified the parent.” The parent was able to recover the child safe and end the Police search.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department “As a result of the calls made by ACIM our department received a call with a location of the possible missing person. Units responded to find it was the missing subject.” This was written by Sergeant Caruso after activating A Child Is Missing Alert on September 1, 2012. A 56 year old man with diabetes was missing from his home in Wilmington. Nearly 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent around the man’s home which assisted Police in locating him safe about 4 miles away a short time later.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department The morning of Saturday, April 7, 2012, Lieutenant Crowell was leading the search for a missing 33 year old woman. There was concern for the woman’s safety due an item of clothing found lying in the road near her home. A Child Is Missing Alert was activated to assist and over 1,200 alert calls were sent to the area surrounding the woman’s home, asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact the Police. In response, 3 tips with information came in, helping Police to locate the woman safe, approximately 1 mile from her home.

Smyrna, Delaware (Kent) Police Department Friday, January 20, 2012, Detective Dunning contacted A Child Is Missing in reference to two missing boys. The boys, ages 15 and 13, had last been seen the previous evening and were believed to be together. Over 2,000 telephone alert calls were launched to the neighborhood surround South Street where the boys had last been seen. Tips from the community helped Police to locate the boys safe in Newark, approximately 28 miles away.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department Monday, May 23, 2011, a frantic mother contacted the New Castle County Police Department to report her 11 year old son missing. She had last seen her son taking a nap in his underclothing. Detective Dunning contacted A Child Is Missing to place out telephone alert calls in hopes that someone in the community could assist with information. Because there was no clothing description, the alert only included the boy’s name and general features. It turned out to be enough, as approximately 1.5 hours after the alert; a single call came in providing an area where the child could be located. The boy was unharmed and reunited with his mother. This case marks New Castle County Police Department’s eleventh successful use of A Child Is Missing Alert.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department The evening of Wednesday, April 13, 2011, two teenage boys went missing from Diminish Drive in Newark and Sergeant Zeissig contacted A Child Is Missing. After activating the Alert, which resulted in more than 1,600 alert calls to the area in question, the boys were found safe. Sergeant Zeissig wrote in his case follow up: “Three calls were generated. The first sighting the missing boys. The second with a location they had been 10 minutes prior. The third actually giving the address and location of the two missing boys.” Total time from activation to safe recovery was less than one hour, preserving law enforcement time and resources. This case marks New Castle County Police Department’s tenth successful use of A Child Is Missing Alert.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department Saturday, September 18, 2010, a 78 year old man suffering from Alzheimer’s was reported missing by his family. Corporal Bottervesch activated A Child Is Missing Alert as his agency had done successfully in the past. Within minutes, the area surrounding the man’s Wilmington neighborhood was ringing with telephone alert calls. The alert calls requested that those in the area check their own yards and complexes for the missing man and requested anyone with information to call Police. The agency received a call from a resident that upon receiving the alert went outside and noticed the missing man in his neighbor’s yard. He contacted Police and stayed with the man until Police arrived. The man was unharmed and reunited with his family.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department - Sergeant Schlecker notified the A Child Is Missing Alert of an autistic 14 year old boy who had gone missing from Bellevue Road in Wilmington on March 10, 2010. The boy had walked away from a group home after climbing through a window. More than 2,500 alert calls were placed in the area with the boy’s description, asking anyone with information to call Police. One of the recipients of the calls noticed a boy matching the description from the call walking along the roadway. As a direct result of information received by the alert calls, the boy was located safe six miles from where he had gone missing.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department At 7:30pm on September 19, 2009, a 13 year old boy in need of medical attention went missing from the area of East Summit Avenue in Wilmington, Delaware. As the New Castle County, Delaware Police Department began its search for the boy, they activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to augment their efforts. More than 2,800 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the boy had last been seen—one of which was received by a former neighbor of the boy. According to Police, after receiving the alert call from A Child Is Missing the former neighbor saw the boy outside their residence, notified Police of the boy’s location, and New Castle County Police safely recovered the boy.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department When an 11 year old boy went missing from the area of Bizarre Drive in New Castle, Delaware on June 6, 2009, the New Castle County Police Department phoned A Child Is Missing as it had so many times before. The boy had last been seen riding a purple mountain bike and Police were concerned about his well being. As a result of the alert phone calls, the boy was located safe the next day approximately ¼ mile from where he had last been seen.

New Castle County, Delaware Police Department A 60 year old woman in need of medical attention was safely located on a bus in Wilmington, Delaware at approximately 10:00pm as a result of the A Child Is Missing alert calls activated by the New Castle County, Delaware Police on April 29, 2009. The woman had gone missing at approximately 1:15pm that day from the area of North Kingscroft Drive in Bear, Maryland. A Child Is Missing placed nearly 2,000 alert calls at the request of New Castle County Police resulting in three calls from the public with crucial information.

Sergeant Messner of the New Castle County, Delaware Police Department called A Child Is Missing on Friday, August 15, 2008 just before 5:00pm seeking assistance in his agency’s search for a missing 13 year old boy. The boy had gone missing about one hour earlier, the Alert Program was activated, and approximately 2,500 alert calls were placed in the area surrounding the 100 block of Pawnee Court in Newark where the boy had last been seen. Approximately “five to 10” calls were received by New Castle County Police which led them to Route 273 where the boy was found within minutes.

On the morning of July 30, 2008 The Wilmington, Delaware Police Department sought assistance in the search for an 11 year old boy who had gone missing the night before. Detective Anthony Roundtree activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program leading to more than 6,500 alert calls being placed to the area adjacent to the 2300 block of North Pine Street in Wilmington. Shortly after, the mother of the missing child informed police that she had received many calls from friends telling her where her son was. Ultimately the boy was safely reunited with his mother.

When an eight year old boy with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder went missing from the 100 block of Beatrice Court in Newark, Delaware, New Castle County Police Sergeant Claudine Malone called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program. The boy had gone missing at 5:15 on May 19, 2008 and Sergeant Malone called A Child Is Missing shortly after. More than 4,300 alert calls were launched when a woman called New Castle Police saying the missing child described in the alert message was playing at her house.

New Castle, DE (New Castle County) – A Child Is Missing was contacted on August 30, 2007 at 9:21 p.m. by Lt. Crowell of the New Castle County Police Department who reported two children missing, one aged 8 and one aged 9. Within minutes 2757 Alert Calls were launched by an ACIM technician with a description of the two children, and their last known whereabouts. Shortly thereafter, several calls were received by the New Castle County Police Department from area residents who reported that they had seen the children in the area at a store asking for rides. At 10:27 p.m. a woman called in and advised that she had picked the girls up at a Burger King and had taken them to their aunt’s house. By 10:30 p.m., it was confirmed that the two children were safely at that location.

On June 28, 2007, a 27 year old woman in need of medical assistance went missing from Carolyn Court in Hockessin, Delaware. New Castle County Police called A Child Is Missing a short time later and alert calls were sent to the area in question. One of the alert calls rang in a bank in Hockessin and, when the woman walked into the bank, an employee recognized her from the alert call description. They called police and the woman was recovered in good health.

New Castle, DE (Newark County) – On March 4, 2007 an 8 year old boy was reported missing to the New Castle Police Department. The Technician on call was contacted by Lt. Crowell who provided essential information to “A Child Is Missing” that allowed ACIM to place 779 calls to the neighborhood. Residents who received the call were able to provide information that resulted in locating the missing juvenile. Lt. Crowell reported “located at an area hospital after an area resident who received the alert call contacted police. Thank you for all of your help.”

New Castle, DE (Newark County) – On Tuesday, January 9, 2007 an 11-year-old boy went missing. Officer Joanna Burton contacted A Child Is Missing with a description and last known location of the child. Upon taking the call, the ACIM Technician utilized Satellite Mapping to determine where to target the calls. Within minutes over 1100 phones began ringing in the neighborhood. One resident who received the call reported seeing the child in their neighborhood. According to Officer Joanna Burton he was located at “10:30 pm, walking on the roadway at Little Baltimore Road and Temby Chase Development.”
