Dunklin County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office The Dunklin County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in response to a missing three year old boy. He had gone missing from the 1800 block of Matthews Road in Malden, Missouri at approximately 2:50 pm. With less than 50 alert calls placed to the rural area surrounding the home in which the child was last seen, the Alert assisted officers in locating the child safe about ½ mile away in a field behind the residence.

DeKalb County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office When a 37 year old man reported to suffer from schizophrenia went missing in Maysville, Missouri on October 25, 2013, Administrator Tracy Russell called A Child Is Missing. The call activated the Alert Program which placed approximately 500 phone calls to the area where the man had last been seen. Several calls from the public assisted deputies in locating the man walking on a gravel road about 4 miles from where he had last been seen.

Caruthersville, Missouri (Pemiscot County) Police Department The night of August 14, 2012, Officer Callen activated A Child Is Missing Alert. A 16 year old girl had been reported missing from her home. The girl had not been seen since the previous night and concern for her safety was growing. Nearly 1,200 telephone alert calls were sent surrounding the girl’s home asking residents to contact Police if they had any information on her whereabouts. In response, 4 tips were received. According to the case follow-up, “Thanks for your help. We received some calls that helped us locate the juvenile and what she was wearing.” Ultimately the girl was located safe a short distance from her home.

Gerald, Missouri (Franklin County) Police Department Monday, July 9, 2012, two sisters, ages 12 and 15 were reported missing in Gerald. Lieutenant Heidbreder activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist in the search, the first time the agency had used the service. Upon activation, the area was mapped out and more than 750 alert calls were sent to the area in Gerald where the girls were last seen. As a result, several residents called into the Police Department with information. Those calls assisted Officers in the safe location of the girls two days later, 25 miles away.

Franklin County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office At approximately 5:30pm on Sunday, July 10, 2011, a family came home from swimming, the mother went upstairs and when she came back down, her 11 year old son was missing. Sergeant Pieske responded and activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist his agency in locating the boy. Over 1,200 telephone alert calls went out to residents and businesses surrounding the boy’s home in Gray Summit. In response, a citizen that had received the alert reported seeing a child matching his description walking along a highway. Deputies responded and found the boy unharmed five miles from his home. Total time from activation to recovery was approximately half an hour.

Pemiscot County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office The evening of Monday, October 18, 2010, a 12 year old boy was reported missing from his home in Steele. Deputy Holder activated A Child Is Missing and within minutes, nearly 1,000 telephones surrounding the boy’s address were ringing with alert calls. The alert message asked anyone with information to contact Police. In response, Police received information that allowed them to locate the boy safe, approximately 3 miles from where he had gone missing. Total time from activation to safe recovery was 15 minutes, thus preserving law enforcement time and resources.

DeKalb County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office - Wednesday, March 31, 2010, The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office activated The A Child Is Missing Alert to assist in their agency’s search for a missing 82 year old woman that suffers from dementia. She told her husband she was driving to the local grocery store the previous morning and hadn’t been seen since. More than 3,300 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 3000 block of Southeast Cook Road in Maysville, where she had last been seen. In response, the Sheriff's Office received a call from a resident who saw the woman near his residence the previous evening. The Sheriff's Office was then able to focus their search near the caller's residence. A highway patrol plane spotted her vehicle off the roadway a quarter mile from the caller’s residence in a field. Due to her dementia, the woman became confused while driving, and drove over a timberline. Her vehicle became stuck, and she sat, for nearly a day, without going for help. Ultimately, the woman was found safe, approximately a quarter mile from where she had gone missing.

Nevada, Missouri (Vernon County) Police Department A 59 year old man in need of medical attention went missing in Nevada, Missouri shortly after 7:00pm on October 15, 2009. Nevada Police called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program which led to more than 1,200 alert calls being placed to the area surrounding where he had last been seen. A person who received one of those alert calls, contacted Police saying she saw a man fitting that description in the south part of town. Information from that caller led Police to the man who was found safe at 8:42pm that day.

Caruthersville, Missouri (Pemiscot County) Police Department A Child Is Missing “is a great program that proved to be very helpful to our Department,” said Caruthersville, Missouri Police Lieutenant Mike Coleman. This comment came after Lieutenant Coleman activated the Alert Program to assist the Caruthersville Police search for a 10 year old boy who had gone missing on the afternoon of Monday, July 20, 2009. The boy had last been seen in the 400 block of East 19th Street in Caruthersville and A Child Is Missing placed 2,900 alert phone calls to residents and businesses in the area surrounding that location. As a result, he was located 1/10 mile from where he had gone missing on Stonewall Drive.

A 14 year old girl, who had last been seen in black and pink pajamas at 5:45am, had gone missing from the 300 block of Marlar Road in Caruthersville, Missouri on March 28, 2009. It was thought she might be in the company of a man and two children she was babysitting. Shortly after Caruthersville Police activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program, nearly 3,500 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where she had last been seen. According to Caruthersville Police Officer Zack Martin, “the [alert] calls led her sister-in-law to bring her to the Police Department.”

The Dunklin County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program on March 24, 2009 in response to a missing 15 year old boy. He had gone missing from the 100 block of West Poole Street in Cardwell, Missouri at approximately 5:30pm and was in need of medical attention. With less than 400 alert calls placed to the area in which the boy was believed to be, approximately 30 calls with information were generated to the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office. Ultimately the boy was safely located on Main Street in Cardwell approximately ¼ mile from where he had last been seen.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2008 the Hayti, Missouri Police Department phoned A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program to help in their search for a seven year old boy who had gone missing at approximately 4:00pm that day. The A Child Is Missing Recovery Specialist took the necessary information, mapped the area surrounding the 600 block of West Grant Street in Hayti where the boy had last been seen, and launched more than 3,400 alert calls. This resulted in 30-40 calls with information being made by residents to Hayti Police. One of the callers, after receiving an alert call, remembered seeing the missing boy with someone else a short time earlier. The caller was able to lead Police to the boy who was safely recovered.
