Dickinson, ND - On September 30, 2005, a pair of 13-year-old boys ran away from home in Dickinson (Stark County), North Dakota. The parents, frantic with worry, contacted the police for help as soon as they discovered the disappearance. After evaluating the situation, Lt. Rick Shirey from the Dickinson PD contacted A Child Is Missing and reported a full description of the two boys to be distributed via telephone in search of a recovery, centered on the address of the homes of the boys and their school. A Child Is Missing placed 7349 alert calls over the surrounding area. The Dickinson Police received two respondent calls from residents, both of which stated that they’d seen the children and gave a rough location. The boys were located a short time later, and as a result, they were subsequently taken into protective custody. Lt. Shirey of the Dickinson SO was quoted as saying “Thanks again for the assistance that led to the recovery of the boys. […] Our Chief of Police, Charles ‘Chuck’ Rummel, was in attendance at the training in Bismarck, ND earlier this month. After having had a chance to utilize this program, we are sold. A great concept.”
