Lancaster County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office “Area farmer was working in the fields and received a call from his wife who received your notice. Farmer had seen the missing party 2 hours prior on a County Road 1 mile outside of town. She was located a short distance from there,” the case follow-up report from The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office read. This after A Child Is Missing Alert assisted the agency with the search for a missing 56 year old woman reported to have diabetes. A Child Is Missing placed over 500 telephone alert calls in the area to residents and businesses.

Omaha, Nebraska Police Department (Douglas County) Saturday, May 25, 2013, Detective Robert Butler activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist his agency’s search for an 8 year old boy. Upon activation more than 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent to residents and businesses around the boy’s home asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact Police. In response, the agency received tips that assisted them in locating the boy safe about 1 mile away.

Omaha, Nebraska Police Department (Douglas County) “It is believed that ACIM was effective due to the number of intake calls, public offering to assist search and overall awareness in the community,” wrote Sergeant Pankonin. This was after he activated the Alert on April 26, 2013. A 74 year old woman with Alzheimer’s was reported missing after it was thought that she left her home and became lost. Nearly 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent to the area which assisted Police in locating the woman safe that evening about 10 miles away.

Aurora, Nebraska Police Department (Hamilton County) “When child was spotted walking on street, one caller knew the juvenile to be missing from the alert.” This was written to A Child Is Missing Alert after assisting Officer Rich Kinsey on October 31, 2012. A 15 year old boy had gone missing early that morning and concern for his safety was growing as the evening was approaching. Over 1,300 telephone alert calls were sent to the community which assisted Police in locating the boy safe about 25 miles away.

Omaha, Nebraska (Douglas County) Police Department In the middle of the night on August 3, 2012, an 8 year old girl was reported missing after she went outside to let her family’s dogs out and never returned. Sergeant Lance Worley called A Child Is Missing to assist and over 1,000 telephone alert calls were sent to the area surrounding the girl’s home, giving her description and asking anyone that may have information about her to contact Police. According to the case follow-up report, “The telephone alert made contact with the parties who had taken in the missing child overnight, who then notified Police at the nearby command post.” Ultimately the girl was located safe about a quarter mile away from her home.

Omaha, Nebraska (Douglas County) Police Department The evening of April 3, 2012 a 63 year old man with Alzheimer’s and diabetes was reported missing from his residence in Omaha. The man told his family he was going golfing, walked away and hadn’t been seen in hours. Sergeant Swanson activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist and over 1,300 telephone alert calls were sent to the community surrounding the man’s home. As a result, the agency received over 20 tips that gave various sightings of the man. The information from the calls assisted Police in locating the man safe, approximately 1 mile away the next morning.

Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office “Child was missing for 2 ½ hours in cold conditions, but found unharmed,” said Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Deputy Swanson after a six year old boy was located due to A Child Is Missing alert calls. It was the afternoon of November 7, 2008 when the boy went missing from the 15000 block of Drexel Street in Omaha and Deputy Swanson activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to assist the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office search. More than 1,800 alert calls were placed in the area surrounding where the boy had last been seen and that generated two calls from alert citizens. From those calls, parents of the boy’s schoolmates were able to direct Deputies to a nearby house where the boy was playing with a friend

The Douglas County, Nebraska Sheriff’s Office called A Child Is Missing on August 29, 2008 and “with[in] 10 minutes of the activation of the alert calls [the] child was located at a friend’s house whose identity was unknown to the parents,” Douglas County Sergeant R. Jones said. At approximately 2:45pm that day, a 12 year old boy had gone missing in Omaha, Nebraska. A Child Is Missing mapped the area surrounding the 14000 block of Larimore Avenue and placed more than 2,500 alert calls. The Sheriff’s Office received eight to 10 calls from residents who had received alert calls which provided information about the boy’s whereabouts.

On July 15, 2008 the Omaha, Nebraska Police Department activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program for help in the search for a missing seven year old boy who had gone missing at approximately 3:30pm. With more than 2,700 alert calls ringing in the area surrounding the 7700 block of Pratt Street in Omaha, one call to police as a result of those alert calls, led them to the boy.

Papillion, NE (Sarpy County) – 6/26/2007 - After the A Child Is Missing Alert Program launched more than 2,900 alert calls looking for a missing 14 year old boy, the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office received a call that the boy had been seen sifting through garbage cans four to six blocks from where he had last been seen. Sergeant Shukis, who originally phone the Alert Program, thanked A Child Is Missing and said the alert calls worked well. The boy had been missing for three hours when Shukis called technician Kari Jimenez who launched the calls.

LaVista, NE (Sarpy County) – On the evening of January 31, 2007 an 11 year old boy went missing in La Vista. The La Vista Police Department placed a call to A Child Is Missing. The Technician who received the call utilized satellite mapping and the information provided by Officer Dooling to target the area surrounding the last known location of the missing juvenile. Within minutes, 1150 phones in the neighborhood began ringing with a recorded message “A Child Is Missing …. We need your help! Please call the La Vista Police Department…” La Vista Police received two calls that gave positive leads to the child’s whereabouts. “Tips led police directly to the juvenile,” Officer Dooling said. “This system is outstanding. I would not want to attempt to locate another juvenile without this invaluable program, great job.”

La Vista, NE (Sarpy County) – On the evening of January 18, 2007 a 12-year-old-boy went missing from his home. The La Vista Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing for assistance in locating the missing child. With in minutes of receiving the call, 2192 phones in the neighborhood began ringing. It was extremely cold outside and time was of the essence. The La Vista Police department received approximately one dozen calls regarding this missing child. One call was received by a resident in neighborhood who knew this child. They and provided essential information to the La Vista PD that led to the safe and rapid recovery of the missing child. In an email to ACIM Founder Sherry Friedlander, Chief Lausten stated, “I would like to thank your program for assistance in this case. It’s great to have positive results.” Officer Hardesty who placed the call to ACIM said, “The Juvenile would not have been located without the tip received from someone notified by ACIM.”
