North Richland Hills, Texas (Tarrant County) Police Department Friday, December 20, 2013, Detective Ratliff called A Child Is Missing to activate the Alert. A 5 year old boy was missing from his home and there was concern for the boy’s safety as the boy was thought to have been abducted by an acquaintance of the family. The department also issued an Amber Alert. Over 1,600 telephone alert calls were sent to residents and businesses in the area where the boy was last seen. The alert gave the description of the boy, the woman the boy was last seen with and the vehicle they were reportedly in. According to the case follow-up report, the suspect abandoned vehicle after hearing Amber Alert on the radio. Officers, who were already searching the area where the car was abandoned, located car and the suspect and child were found a short time later. The boy was found with the suspect about five (5) miles away from his home.

Baylor County, Seymour Police Department On Wednesday, December 4, 2013, an 80 year old man went missing in Seymour, Texas at 7:30am. A Child Is Missing was activated and, shortly after the alert calls were placed to the search area, the man was safely located at 9am. Chief Mike Griffin called A Child Is Missing and more than 5,300 alert calls were quickly placed to the area surrounding the residence. Per Chief Griffin, “the Alert not only notified a resident that we were looking for the individual in her home, but also brought forth volunteers from the community who offered to help search”. That information assisted deputies in locating the gentleman safe about a 1/2 mile away.

Houston County, Texas Sheriff’s Office On October 31, 2013, two girls went missing in Lovelady, Texas at 9:55am. A Child Is Missing was activated that afternoon and, shortly after the alert calls were placed to the search area, the girls were safely located at 8pm. This occurred when the girls, a 13 year old and a 15 year old, went missing from their school. Deputy Simpson called A Child Is Missing and more than 400 alert calls were quickly placed to the area surrounding the school. As a result of those alert calls, the Sheriff’s Office received several calls from the public with information. That information assisted deputies in locating the girls safe 2 miles away.

Grand Prairie, Texas Police Department (Dallas County) On Sunday, April 7, 2013, Lieutenant Morris called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program regarding a 7 year old girl that had gone missing that night. A Child Is Missing placed nearly 1,300 telephone alert calls to the search area. Those calls resulted in a tip with information on the whereabouts of the girl. Ultimately the girl was located safe at a friend’s home approximately 1 mile away from her home.

Bedford, Texas (Tarrant County) Police Department The morning of Wednesday, February 8, 2012, a 12 year old boy was reported missing from his home in Bedford. Further heightening concern was that the boy’s backpack had been found abandoned in his driveway. Dispatcher Karns activated A Child Is Missing Alert to assist Officer Cottongame at the scene and more than 1,800 telephone alert calls were sent to the area surrounding the boy’s home, asking anyone with information to contact Police. In response, the agency received tips that helped Police to locate the boy 2 hours later, approximately 5 miles away.

Gatesville, Texas (Coryell County) Police Department The evening of Saturday, October 15, 2011, a 9 year old boy did not come home for the night and his family called Police. It was out of character for the boy and he suffers from emphysema, heightening concern. Sergeant Cleverly activated A Child Is Missing Alert and nearly 500 telephone alert calls were sent to the community surrounding the boy’s home, asking residents to check their own property and to contact Police if they had any information. In response, 4 calls were received, enabling Police to finally locate the boy safe, 3.5 miles from his home.

White Settlement, Texas (Tarrant County) Police Department The morning of Sunday, January 30, 2011, Investigator Rayner contacted A Child Is Missing concerning an 11 year old boy that had left his home the previous night with a friend stating that he would be back at 6pm and never returned. Approximately 1,000 calls were placed in the vicinity of the boy’s home, asking for citizens to be aware that the boy was missing and to look over their property for him. Of the responders, one call was from a woman stating that the boy had spent the night at her home with her child. She immediately sent the boy home. Total time from activation to safe recovery was one hour and fifteen minutes.

Upton County, Texas Sheriff’s Office On Friday, January 7, 2011, a 13 year old boy was reported missing from his home in rural Rankin, Texas and The Upton County Sheriff’s Office immediately began searching for him. Part of the agency’s search included activating A Child Is Missing Alert and Deputy Kilgore placed the call. After providing all the necessary case information, A Child Is Missing placed nearly 1,000 alert calls to the area surrounding the boy’s home. Not far from Rankin, another child had been missing for over two weeks and the community was on edge. Citizens came out in their vehicles and on foot to assist. Five tips with information on the boy’s location came in as a result of the alert calls. According to Sheriff Brown, “The child was recovered within 10 minutes of the calls being placed.” The boy was found safe, less than a half mile from where he had gone missing.

Burnet County, Texas Sheriff’s Office The morning of Sunday, August 15, 2010, Sheriff Smith was searching for a 3 year old boy that had been reported missing by his parents when they awoke to find him gone from his bed. A Child Is Missing Alert was quickly activated and more than 4,400 telephone alert calls were placed surrounding the child’s home. Immediately, the Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls from citizens asking if they could help to search for the boy. So many calls were received that a command post was set up to organize all of the volunteers. One recipient of the call also donated the use of a helicopter. In addition to the calls offering volunteer services, a few calls with sightings of the boy enabled Police to focus their search in a new direction. Because of some difficult fence lines, Police had previously ruled the area out, but due to the new tips of the callers, Police realized the boy had crossed these fences. The efforts of the volunteers, in combination with the tips of the callers, enabled Police to find the boy safe, a little less than one mile from where he had gone missing.

After nearly 5,000 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the boy had last been seen, Police were able to locate him safely as a result of the alert calls.

Farmers Branch, Texas (Dallas County) Police Department Wednesday, November 11, 2009, Sergeant Skocks called A Child Is Missing Alert to assist his agency in searching for a 78 year old man suffering from Alzheimer’s. The on call technician shared with the sergeant that Alzheimer’s patients often walk in straight lines, which ACIM has learned from case history. Nearly 900 alert calls were placed around the man’s home. “Incoming calls of residents who have known the missing elderly and have started search efforts assisted law enforcement tremendously!” said Sergeant Skocks. “People saw him hours prior and helped with direction.” Ultimately, the man walked into a Police Department in the neighboring town, approximately 5 miles away, which happened to be in a straight line from where he went missing.

Eagle Lake, Texas (Colorado County) Police Department At 8:00pm on Monday, September 21, 2009, a 77 year old man suffering from alzheimers, diabetes and high blood pressure went missing in Eagle Lake, Texas. Police and relatives were concerned not only due to his multiple medical conditions but also because the man was wearing only jogging pants and it was very cold at night. Eagle Lake Chief of Police William Lattimore activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. After more than 2,300 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 500 block of East State Street in Eagle Lake where the man had last been seen, two calls with information were received by Police. This information included a sighting of the missing man walking toward an empty field at approximately 11:30pm. Police immediately searched the field and found the man laying in the field. He was alive and hospitialized.

Longview, Texas (Gregg County) Police Department When an 80 year old man in need of medical attention went missing at 5:00am on Monday, August 31, 2009 in Longview, Texas, Police there activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to help the search. After initially not receiving information leading to the man’s location, several waves of alert calls were placed. In all, Longview Police received 20 calls from the public with information. The man was ultimately located safe on the 700 block of South Green Street in Longview approximately 1 ¼ miles from where he had gone missing.

Medina County, Texas Sheriff’s Office In Mico, Texas at 12:00 noon on Sunday, July 26, 2009, an 82 year old man in need of medical attention had gone missing. Having last been seen in the 300 block of County Road 2748, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office began its search there. In addition to conducting a search, the Sheriff’s Office quickly activated the A Child Is Missing Alert Program. More than 3,200 alert calls were placed on behalf of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office seeking any information the public might have about the missing man. Five calls with information were received by the Sheriff’s Office which led to the man’s safe recovery just 25 yards from where he had last been seen.

Medina County, Texas Sheriff’s Office When a seven year old boy went missing in Natalia, Texas on the afternoon of July 20, 2009, Dispatcher Romero contacted the A Child Is Missing Alert Program to assist the Medina County Sheriff’s Office search for the boy. After more than 3,100 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 2500 block of County Road 770 in Natalia, “many volunteers from the neighborhood came out to help find [the] missing child,” according to Dispatcher Romero. After going missing at 3:30pm, the child was located shortly after 7:00pm approximately 3 ¼ miles from where he had gone missing.

New London, Texas (Rusk County) Police Department An 11 year old boy was reported missing in New London, Texas on Saturday, July 11, 2009 and Chief Paul Thompson contacted A Child Is Missing for Assistance. Nearly 1,100 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding the 100 block of Phillips Street in New London resulting in seven calls from the community back to Police. Information from those calls was instrumental in locating the boy safe. One alert call recipient saw the boy playing in a wooded field and, once notified the boy was missing, called Police and the boy’s mother.

Houston, Texas (Harris County) Police Department An 11 year old girl had gone missing from the 3900 Block of Brook Shadow Drive in Kingwood, Texas on July 3, 2009 and her family was unaware of where she might be. Houston Police contacted A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program. This activation resulted in alert phone calls being placed to the area surrounding the Brook Shadow Drive location. One of the alert calls was received by the home which the girl had been visiting unbeknownst to her family. As a result of knowing alert calls were being placed in search of her, the girl returned home.

On April 6, 2009 the Eagle Lake, Texas Police Department was searching for a five year old boy who had gone missing from the 1100 block of Seaholm in Eagle Lake at approximately 6:20pm that day. After 3,300 alert calls were placed in the area surrounding where the boy had last been seen, police received information resulting from those calls that led directly to the boy’s safe recovery. Eagle Lake Chief of Police W.E. Lattimore said, “great job.” He added, the boy “was found playing with other kids in a yard after a resident received your [alert] call.”

Significant media attention was paid to the Jacksboro, Texas Police Department after they recovered a six year old boy who went missing from the 100 block of North 4th Street in Jacksboro on January 5, 2009. The boy went missing at 1:00pm, Police called A Child Is Missing and activated the Alert Program at 3:00pm, and more than 3,000 alert calls were launched in the area adjacent to where the boy had last been seen. A friend of the boy’s grandmother picked up the boy so he wouldn’t be home alone. After doing this the friend received an alert call and called police who safely recovered the boy several blocks from his last seen location.

Desoto, Texas (Dallas County) Police Department - When a seven year old child went missing from the 700 block of Tara Drive in Desoto, Texas, Police there searched and called A Child Is Missing. The child had gone missing at 9:30am on Saturday, November 8, 2008 and Desoto Police called the Alert Program a few hours later. Approximately 10 minutes after 4,800 alert calls were placed to the area surrounding where the girl had last been seen, one call to police led them directly to the child—who was indoors at a neighbor’s house. “This is a great service and my first time to use it,” a police spokesperson said, “thank you for your help.”1

Farmers Branch, Texas (Dallas County) Police Department Sergeant Stokes of the Farmers Branch, Texas Police Department was working a case involving a missing nine year old boy who had last been seen in the 14000 block of Shoredale Lane in Dallas on September 4, 2008 at 8:30am—less than two hours prior to Stokes calling A Child Is Missing for assistance. After more than 5,000 alert calls were launched in the area in question, Farmers Branch Police received a response. Someone who received an alert message called Police and reported having seen the child being followed by his mother in her vehicle. This critical information enabled Police to rule out abduction and contain their search in a specific area where the boy was ultimately found hiding in the bushes.

DeSoto, TX (Dallas County) – On August 22, 2007, at 1:16 p.m. the DeSoto Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing to report the disappearance of a three year old child. After taking the child’s description, his last known whereabouts, and other relevant information, an ACIM technician launched 621 Alert Calls to area residents/businesses of where he was last seen. Less than 30 minutes later, Detective Tillman of the DeSoto Police Department reported that “The child was located and the police were trying to locate the parents. A neighbor across the street where the child lives called stating that the missing child lived across the street … and the parents did come to the Police Department and picked up the child.”

Everman, TX – On December 9, 2005, an 11-year-old girl was reported missing from her home in Everman (Tarrant County), Texas. The mother suspected that her estranged husband might attempt to take his non-custodial daughter across the border to Mexico, so time was especially of the essence, prompting the Everman PD to utilize the A Child Is Missing Alert system for the first time for the department. Everman PD gave ACIM a detailed description of the child and her father, and ACIM proceeded to send out 2550 alert calls to the community where the girl was last seen, as well as areas where the father was known to frequently visit. Almost immediately after the community was notified, scores of calls came in, including one that pointed out that the child and father had been seen at a nearby convenience store, and pointed out a direction and road traveled to the police. The girl was recovered shortly thereafter, and returned to her custodial mother's care safely.

Boyd, TX (Wise County) – On the night of June 17, 2005, the Wise County, Texas Sheriff’s Office called A Child Is Missing seeking help in their search for a 39 year old man with a head injury. A Child Is Missing launched more than 1,500 alert calls in Boyd, Texas asking anyone with information about the man to call the Sheriff’s Office. Approximately 30-40 calls were generated from the public according to Sheriff David Walker. One of the callers led deputies to the missing man who was in their pasture.

Lake Worth, Young County, TX – Lake Worth Police Department - On April 21, 2005, an 8-year-old-girl was reported as abducted in Lake Worth, Texas. Captain Dave Tatsak with the Lake Worth Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing and reported the details of the case. There was a custody issue, and the mother (who had multiple warrants) ran off with the child, against the conservator’s permission. A Child Is Missing placed 580 calls to the vicinity of where the missing child was last seen. Lake Worth Police Department received “too many calls to count” from residents who were able to provide leads to recover the woman and child, who were hiding in an abandoned house but were seen entering earlier that day, (the girl was still wearing the school uniform described in the Alert Message) Captain Tatsak was quoted as saying “Young County Arrested the mother on multiple warrants and the child was immediately returned to her guardian as a result of your program. Thank you!!”

Dallas, TX (Dallas County) – Dallas County Sheriff Office - On April 7, 2005, a 13-year-old-female was reported missing from her school in Dallas, Texas. Dave Johnson with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office contacted A Child Is Missing and reported the missing case. A Child Is Missing placed 2,049 calls to the vicinity of where the missing girl was last seen. Due to the region, the message was sent out in both English and Spanish languages. Dallas County Sheriff Office received 3 calls from residents, including a family that admitted to having harbored the child in their home, and subsequently called the child’s mother to come pick her up after receiving the notification message.

Melissa, TX - On April 4, 2005, an 85-year-old-male was reported missing from his nursing facility in Melissa, Texas. Detective Phillip Pannell with the Melissa Police Department contacted A Child Is Missing and reported the missing case. A Child Is Missing placed several hundred calls to the vicinity of where the missing man was last seen. Melissa Police Department received 20+ calls from residents, including a few people that had had seen him, leading the police to recover him safely.
